You’re correct, since exam 70-535 will retire on December 31, 2019 the transition exam would be AZ-302.
The transition exams are going to retire on June 30, 2019 since it was moved. Please see image below:

If a Candidate was able to pass exams 70-535 and AZ-302 before their retirement date, they will earn the Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification.
If the Candidate was not able to pass the exams before the retirement date, they may pass exams AZ-300 and AZ-301. More information is available in this link.
After passing the last exam required for any certification your transcript will be updated. It may take up to 24 - 48 hours for the system to recognize your new certification status.
