How can I renew a certificate after it has expired?

Hi,

I hope this message finds you well. I missed the renewal deadline for my Azure Data Engineer Associate(DP-203) , and I would like guidance on how to renew it now that it has expired.

Please let me know if there are any steps I can take or resources available to help me with this process.

Thank you for your support!

Best regards,

Hello Sai!

Thank you for contacting Microsoft's Community.

Based on your inquiry, we understand that you have a question about the expiration of your Certificates. We will be happy to help you.

Kindly be aware that if you let your certification expire, you must have all the prerequisites valid/active to achieve the Certification, you can renew it by passing a free renewal assessment. The renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn is only available once you're eligible six months before your certification expires (expiration dates and times are in UTC).

We recommend taking the renewal assessment well before expiration to allow time for any unforeseen events, such as medical emergencies, technical issues, or multiple retakes.

Please be aware that you must pass the renewal assessment for your certification on Microsoft Learn before your certification expires; no alternative paths are available to renew your certification. There are no exceptions to this policy. In your case, the exams will need to be retaken if you have not properly renewed your certificates

For more information about renewals kindly refers to: Renew your Microsoft Certification - FAQ | Microsoft Learn

For future, please allow yourself enough time in advance of expiration to take certification renewal assessments, including time to retake an assessment if you do not successfully pass initially.

Hello Sai!

Thank you for your response.

Kindly be aware that the renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn is only available once you're eligible six months before your certification expires (expiration dates and times are in UTC).

Microsoft recognizes that you work hard to earn Microsoft Certifications. To help you keep them current, following are some Certification renewal reminders and best practices:

  • There’s no cost to renew your Certification, and you can take the online renewal assessment as many times as you need—just make sure that you pass the assessment before your Certification expires. If your Certification expires before you pass the renewal assessment, you’ll need to retake the exam(s) to re-earn the Certification exam and pay any costs associated with taking the exam(s).

  • Certifications expire one year after you earn them (except for Fundamentals Certifications, which do not expire).

  • You can take the renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn at any time during your six-month eligibility window.

  •  We encourage learners to take the Certification renewal assessment well before the Certification expires. To allow time for retakes or any unforeseen events, we recommend that you start the Certification renewal process six months in advance of the Certification expiration.

Note: As your Certifications become eligible for renewal, you’ll receive email notifications to alert you. Make sure that your email account is set up to receive emails from microsoft-noreply@microsoft.com). Please note these emails are sent as a courtesy; it is best to keep track of certification expiration dates and plan accordingly.

  • All Certifications expire at 11:59 PM Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on the date of expiration; but the Certification expiration date shown on your Microsoft Learn profile is in your local time zone (Profile -> Credential -> Certification -> Look for your cert). To accommodate this time difference, you need to plan accordingly.

My certification has Expired. Do I need to pay and retake full exam, or is there an option to take a renewal exam instead?

Hello Sai!

Thank you for your response.

If your Microsoft certification has expired, you will need to retake the full exam to re-earn your certification. Unfortunately, there is no option to take a renewal exam once the certification has expired
