Inquiry Regarding Certification Renewal

Below are the details of my certification:

  • Issued on: *****

  • Expiration Date: ******

I understand that certifications can typically be renewed within six months before they expire. However, when I checked the certification portal, I saw a message saying:

"This certification was retired on June 30, 2024. You can renew your certification for up to six months after it has been retired."

I'm a bit confused by this. Am I still eligible to renew this certification, even though it hasn’t technically reached its expiration date?

If so, I’d really appreciate any guidance on how I can proceed with the renewal.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Yvonne_222

Welcome to Microsoft's Community.

As we understand, you want to know information about the renewal of a retired Certification.

When a Microsoft certification is retired, it means the associated exam is no longer available after the specified retirement date.

However, if you earned the certification before it was retired, you may still be eligible to renew it for up to six months after the retirement date, even if the certification itself has not yet expired. Once the six-month window closes, you are unable to renew your title and move to the "Historical Certifications" section of your Microsoft Learn profile. It still shows up on your transcript as a credential you earned, but as retired.

As you mentioned, the Certification retirement date was on June 30, 2024. You were able to renew the certification for up to six months after the retirement date, which meant until December 30, 2024.

Once a Certification is retired, the candidates will not be able to renew it, and it will be valid until the date issued in each candidate’s certificate.

We invite you to check: Credential retirement | Microsoft Learn

Dear Microsoft Certification Support,

Thank you for your response and clarification regarding the retirement policy.

However, I would like to further clarify my situation:

Although my certification shows an expiration date of October 21, 2025, I attempted to renew it in advance (well before the expiration date), but I found that it was no longer possible after December 31, 2024, due to the retirement policy.

This was quite unexpected, as I had assumed I would be able to renew within the six-month window prior to expiration, as is normally the case.

Since I already hold the certification and it is still valid, I would like to kindly ask:

  • Is there any way to renew this certification now, given that the retirement cutoff date has passed, but the certification itself hasn't yet expired?

  • If not, would it be possible to transfer or upgrade to a newer equivalent certification without losing continuity?

I appreciate your help and any guidance you can provide. Thank you very much!
