My MCP and MCAD certifications show as retired.

Is there a process for renewal or update?

Answer
Answer

Hello Shanec.

Thank you for contacting Microsoft's Community.

We understand from your post that you have your MCP and MCAD certificate with "retired" status, and you want to know if you can renew or update them.

Kindly know that once a certification has been retired, it will no longer be available in the Microsoft Learn course or certification offerings. If you earned or renewed a certification before it was retired, it will remain on your transcript in the Active certifications section until it expires. Once the certification expires, it will move the Historical certifications section of your transcript.

The MCP certifications was retired when the technology they are based on becomes obsolete or no longer relevant. You can be able to see which exams and certifications has been retired by following: Exam retirement | Microsoft Learn. Also please note that we do not recall a MCAD Certificate withing the MS Learn.

How MCP certification is retired, you can still use it to show your expertise in technology, but you will not receive any updates or benefits from Microsoft. You are still considered an MCP, but your certification may not be recognized by some employers or organizations who are looking for current skills and technologies.

Therefore, if you want to use your MCP certification when applying for a job, we kindly invite you to check the requirements and expectations of the employer and see if they accept retired certifications or not. We also invite you to consider updating your skills and knowledge by taking new exams or courses that are relevant to your field of interest. Microsoft offers various learning paths and certifications for distinct roles and levels of expertise.

We hope this is useful to you, if there is anything else we can do for you, please do not hesitate to stay connected with us.

If no additional assistance is required, please indicate “Yes” to the question and the thread will automatically be closed and locked. In case we do not receive a response, it will be closed and locked after one business day.

Best Wishes!

Nicole Rendon.
