Questions about MCSA

   I am interested in taking MCSA certifications, but I am not sure which one to take.  I heard there are 10 MCSA certifications:
  1. MCSA Windows Server 2016;

  2. MCSA SQL 2016 Database Development;

  3. MCSA SQL 2016 Database Administration;

  4. MCSA: SQL 2016 Business Intelligence Development;

  5. MCSA Web Applications;

  6. MCSA Universal Windows Platform;

  7. MCSA: Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations;

  8. MCSA Windows Server 2012;

  9. MCSA BI Reporting;

  10. MCSA: Dynamics 365 for Operations.

Do I have all 10 MCSA certifications right?  Is there MCSA Windows Server 2019 exam?  If I am right, I am interested in taking the MCSA Windows Server 2016.  There are three exams to pass to earn your MCSA Windows Server 2016 certificate.

  • Exam 70-740: Installation, Storage, and Compute with Windows Server 2016
  • Exam 70-741: Networking with Windows Server 2016
  • Exam 70-742: Identity with Windows Server 2016

How much time do I have in between to pass any 2 of the 3 exams?  Do I need to take the 3 exams in order or in any order?  For example, to take exam 70-740 first, take exam 70-741 second and take exam 70-742 third if I am taking all three exams in order.  Where can I find detailed information about MCSA Windows Server 2016 exams?  Where can I purchase books on Microsoft website to study for MCSA Windows Server 2016 exams?  If I fail an exam, when can I take the exam again?

To summarize, I have seven questions:

  1. Do I have all 10 MCSA certifications right?

  2. Is there MCSA Windows Server 2019 exam?

  3. How much time do I have in between to pass any 2 of the 3 exams?

  4. Do I need to take the 3 exams in order or in any order?

  5. Where can I find detailed information about MCSA Windows Server 2016 exams?

  6. Where can I purchase books on Microsoft website to study for MCSA Windows Server 2016 exams?

  7. If I fail an exam, when can I take the exam again?

    Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much!

    Have a nice day!

Answer

Hello Chuck_267,

Thank you for showing interest in Microsoft certifications and exams.

To answer your first question, I don’t an information if you already completed the 10 MCSA certifications. To check it on your end you may obtain a copy of your transcript since it has the list of your earned certificates as well the exams. And yes, you are correct that there is 10 MCSA certifications.

2.) We haven’t received any updates from the Microsoft if there is already a MCSA Windows Server 2019 exam. As of now the only available Windows Server certification are the 2012 and 2016.

For the questions 3 and 4, there is no time frame for you to take the exams. You may take it anytime as long as you are done with your preparations and you may take them in any order. But make to take it before the retirement of the exam (if there is).

5.) For more information about the MCSA Windows Server 2016 exams and certification, kindly visit this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/learning/mcsa-windows-server-2016-certification.aspx

6.) Since there are three (3) exams that must be completed for you to obtain the certification, one of the best ways to know more about the exam is to take advantage of the “Preparation options” section found in the exam details page. This is to ensure that you have all the available information needed. For example:

7.) Yes, you can retake the exam/s. For further details please visit this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/learning/certification-exam-policies.aspx or see the illustration below:
