SQL Training for Beginners

Hi All,

I'm looking to get my feet wet with SQL Server.  I figured it would be safe to say that I should at least start with the Microsoft MTA certs.  However, the current MTA exam for Database fundamentals is based off of SQL Server 2008.  I know the SQL 2016 Database Administration and SQL Server 2012/2014 are due to expire at the end beginning of 2021, but they all suggest to start with an MTA and they don't show a current up-to-date option.  Any suggestions?

Hi BradJ_5993,

The information you have provided are all correct.

MTA certification are fundamental certifications that we offer especially for students and candidates who are new to the technology. However, taking MTA certifications is not mandatory and you can proceed right away with higher level of certifications such as: MCSA, MCSD or MCSE certifications.

Exam 98-364 covers Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and as per SQL Server 2012/2014 and 2016 certifications, they will retire on January 31, 2021.

Currently, there are no direct replacements for the said SQL certifications. However, there are recommended path that can be taken to Microsoft Role-based certification.

SQL certifications falls under MCSE: Data Management and Analytics. Please check the recommendations below.
