Studying for Role Based and Expert Microsoft Certification

I am a trainee to a new company and I have to achieve the Certifications MS-700 and MS-102....Since December (so one full month) I have watched once a video course for MS-700 and made some tests for it. Unfortunately, I didn't pass the exam yet, although tried twice....and l also have the feeling that I haven't much learned.

Until I achieve at least one of these Certs, I am not allowed to have any practical experience, just my own sandbox with M365 Teams subscription.

However, I do have basically 3.5 days per week x 7 hours per day the time I can use for studying.

My question is, considering I have 0 experience in MS, Azure, or any Cloud environment, or even Server Administration ....how much time does it take someone to study and successfully take the exam? Or how many times should I be reading the Microsoft Learning Paths, or/and watch the course videos...?

I would like to know if others that were in my situation had the same difficulty as I do.

Also, if you have maybe other tips and tricks that I could use, maybe other Microsoft Labs, it would very appreciated.

Or maybe access to the labs from Training Led Courses, would be very helpful as well.

Thank you,

Dizzy

Hi DizzyMnM,

Thank you for contacting the Microsoft Community.

I appreciate you reaching out to us for further assistance with your MS-700 exam, and I understand how important it is for you to gather all the necessary details and knowledge as for you to be more prepared on this subject and can identify your areas of improvement. Now that I am aware of the issue, rest assured that I will provide the necessary information.

It actually depends on what way you do prefer to prepare for an exam. If you’re looking for in-depth, structured training, instructor-led training offers dedicated, personal attention from technical subject matter experts, we have this Instructor-led training. Upon browsing the available modules/learning paths/courses of an exam, you will see the duration of each module. MS-700 as an example, there's a learning path MS-700 Get started with managing Microsoft Teams that consumes 3 hours 31 mins of time. (Please see the image below)

Note: You can also browse all learning paths and modules based on product (for example, Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows), based on role (such as developer or data engineer), or based on learning level (beginner, intermediate, and advanced)

Alternatively, if you want some way of preparation that will depend and follow your learning pace, we have this Self-paced on Microsoft Learn

which is available in each certification's/exam's detail page as a guide to prepare. Specifically for MS-700, you can open this link to see the study guides below: Exam MS-700: Managing Microsoft Teams - Certifications | Microsoft Learn

Moreover, Practice Assessment is also an alternative way to prepare for an exam in a timely manner. This is intended to provide an overview of the exam's style, wording, and difficulty of the questions that you might face during the exam.

As per the document's note: These questions are not the same as what you will see on the exam nor is this document illustrative of the length of the exam or its complexity (e.g., you may see additional question types, multiple case studies, and labs). These questions are examples only to provide insight into what to expect on the exam and help you determine if additional preparation is required.

Furthermore, for you to familiarize the experience of taking an exam, you can try to explore the sandbox by doing a demo. With this, you can experience the look and feel of the exam before taking it. You’ll be able to interact with different question types (e.g., build list, drag and drop, etc.) in the same user interface you’ll use during the exam. This will help you to lessen your worry on what to expect on next items during the exams.

Lastly, as I maximized all of my resources to help you successfully earn the certifications and exams, let me share to you that we offer this Exam Replay. This allows you to have a second chance to achieve and pass your exam by free retake.

Note: You cannot schedule your retake until you have taken and failed to pass the initial exam. This must be bought before registering an exam.

Hi Steven,

Many thanks for your your help on this.

I would answer this punctually...

- By the with the learning paths - it takes me maybe twice more time just get once through it, because I also need to really understand, maybe also try it on my own. And then you also need to have breaks within. So when you say 3h30m, it means actually (at least for me) a day. And after completely reading all paths, I would need to read it at least twice more in order to have a real thorough idea of what's going on.

- Instructor Led course - I can't afford to pay for such a course, as it's very expensive, and the company only pays for the exam

- I am already very familiar with the sandbox, used it many times

- I can't use the exam replay, because the company actually pays the exam

It would be very useful some hands on labs to try on for MS-700 (the more the better)

I was wondering if it is so hard for other people, who have no experience yet in the cloud, as I do and if they have some tips for me.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Dizzy,
