Upgrade path from SQL Server MCSE:Data Platform 2012 to SQL Server 2016\2017\2019 MCSE

Hi Heart_12

I had a question below

I have MCSE:Data Platform certification which is now retired and always active on my trascript. I am now looking to upgrade my current certification which is in SQL Server 2012 to either SQL Server 2016 or 2017.

and I got an answer

I found other exams that you might consider since they do have the same technology under SQL Server. Please see list below:

70-461: Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014

70-462: Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014 Databases

70-463: Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014

70-464: Developing Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014 Databases

70-465: Designing Database Solutions for Microsoft SQL Server

70-466: Implementing Data Models and Reports with Microsoft SQL Server

70-467: Designing Business Intelligence Solutions with Microsoft SQL Server

I wanted to ask that can I give one of the below exam to upgrade my MCSE to SQL Server 2016\2017 (but the question got locked

Exam 70-762/Course 20762: Developing SQL Databases
Exam 70-767/Course 20767: Implementing a Data Warehouse using SQL
Exam 70-768/Course 20768: Developing SQL Data Models
Exam 70-777/Course 20777: Implementing Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB Solutions

So please let me know if I can give any of the 70-7xx exam. I am planning to sit for Exam 70-762.

Regards

Rohit

Answer

Hi Rohit,

I really appreciate your understanding.

That is correct. If you wish to attain the MCSE Data Management & Analytics certification, you need to attain 1 MCSA from the following:  MCSASQL Server 2012/2014, MCSA SQL 2016 Database Dev, MCSA SQL 2016 Database Admin, MCSA SQL 2016 BI Development, MCSA BI Reporting. Along with it, you need to pass 1 elective exam for this year 2019 from the following: 70-464, 70-465, 70-466, 70-467, 70-762, 70-767, 70-768, 70-777.

Upon checking, the exams 70-464 and 70-465 are not part of the list eligible for a retake. In this case, you need to choose another elective exams from the list provided above.

Best of luck on your exam.
