I've lost access to my Microsoft Learn profile so can't renew any of my exams.

Hi,

I've recently closed down a old Xbox account I had however I've since realised that my Microsoft Learn account was linked to the same Microsoft ID.

As such I'm no-longer able to renew any of my active Microsoft exams but I can still see my certificates and ms learn public profile even though I can't login to it.

So I know the data is still there but just not linked to an account.

How do I link my learn account***** to another Microsoft ID?

I've got the emails when I passed my exams which shows my "Microsoft Certification ID" which I can provide.

Thanks

Hi, Scott

Welcome to Microsoft´s Community.

As we understand from your post, you want to change the email associated.

Due to improvements in security processes, updating your personal Microsoft account (MSA) must now be done via your Learn profile. To protect your privacy, we cannot view or update this information from our end.

By design, your Learn profile can be associated with one personal Microsoft account (MSA) and up to five work or school accounts (AAD) at a time. This limit cannot be exceeded.

Additionally, previous services related to Certification profiles, such as profiles merging and email change are now self-assisted by users.

This means that, to update the personal Microsoft account (MSA) associated with your Learn profile, you must first add a work or school account (AAD) to your profile. This will allow you to remove and replace your personal account.

To update the personal Microsoft account (MSA) associated with your Learn profile, please follow the steps below:

If you have a work or school (AAD) account associated with your Learn profile:

  1. Please visit Microsoft Learn.

  2. Sign in using your work or school account (AAD).

  3. Click on your user icon, located at the upper right corner of the screen, and select "Settings."

  4. Under the "Account management" section, remove your personal Microsoft account (MSA).

  5. After removing your personal account, click "Add account" and sign in using your preferred Microsoft account (MSA).

If you do not have a work or school (AAD) account associated with your Learn profile:

  1. Please visit Microsoft Learn.

  2. Sign in with your current personal Microsoft account (MSA).

  3. Click on your user icon, located at the upper right corner of the screen, and select "Settings."

  4. Under the "Account management" section, select "Add account."

  5. Sign in using your work or school account (AAD) to add it to your Learn profile.

  6. Sign out of Microsoft Learn.

  7. Sign into Microsoft Learn using your work or school account (AAD).

  8. Return to the "Account management" section to remove your personal Microsoft account (MSA).

  9. After removing your personal account, click "Add account" and sign in using your preferred personal Microsoft account (MSA).

You can find a more detailed guide on this matter in the article: Manage your Microsoft Learn profile settings | Microsoft Learn.

In case you are not part of an organization that can assign you a work or school account (AAD), you can create one by signing up for a Microsoft 365 free trial, as stated in the article: Sign up for Power BI with a new Microsoft 365 trial - Power BI.

We hope that you find this information to be helpful. If you require assistance with your Learn profile, please let us know. If we do not receive a response, the case will be closed and locked after one business day.

Best regards,

Isabel Lopez.

Hi,

Unfortunately because my account that had access to my learn profile was deleted I can’t access any of my learn profile to add another account.

As I have my certification id is it possible to move it to another account as I have exams that I need to renew?

I have all the details of exams and pass time to provide if required.

Thanks

Hi, Scott

Hope you are doing well.

Hi,

I'm unable to do that myself as the Microsoft account registered with my learn account has been deleted and as such essentially locked out and can't migrate it myself.

Trying the recover account options show my account doesn't exist however I can see my learn profile is still publicly accessible.

I need Microsoft assistance in either migrating my certifications or recovering my learn profile.

I've spent many years, hours and cash obtaining these and if lost would set me back years.

When I was deleting the xbox account at no point did it advise that id be disconnected my from learn profile and until recently I believe these weren't even linked.

Is there a uk number to call?

Hi, Scott

Hope you are doing well.

Unfortunately, as of July 24, 2024, it is not possible to recover any data, including certification records, once a profile has been deleted.

This deletion is permanent and includes all associated data. The Learn Engineering Team has confirmed that there is no way to recover this data once deleted.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. Please visit the following link: Microsoft Learn frequently asked questions (FAQs) | Microsoft Learn with further details and information regarding your Learn accounts.

From our end we are unable to change the email or migrate the profile, this process is self-assisted by users.

You can also reach the recovery team to Account help

Please let us know if you have any other questions, or if we can proceed with the closure of this thread. In the event that we do not receive a response, it will be closed and blocked within one business day.

Sincerely,

Isabel Lopez.

Hi Isabel,

I didn't delete my certification profile and only the Microsoft account linked to it.

I can still see the profile is externally accessible but because no Microsoft account is linked to it I can't access it.

I can actually see another support case (https://trainingsupport.microsoft.com/en-us/mcp/forum/all/assistance-needed-to-retrieve-certifications-after/54771946-9104-4d7d-9433-01f1dfe06134?page=1) where your engineering team have been able to resolve this for another user. This was recently and after the date you've specified.

Whilst the issue isn't exactly the same I'd argue they were in a worse case because there certificates weren't even visible. I can see my account is still there but I guess it doesn't have an account linked.

It looks like the engineering team have the ability to restore access and can the same not be done for myself?

As I say when deleting the Microsoft account at no point was I warned about it deleting my access to my certification and until recently Microsoft linked these earlier this year.

For the amount of money spent on these training course and exams simply saying you can't assist in recovering them isn't good enough.

Thanks

Hi, Scott

Hope you are doing well.

Once you deleted your account you lost access to the certification profile, for that reason we suggest you try to recover the account and unlink the respective email. Remember that we cannot view or update this information from our end.

The case you provided was informed the same as we already shared with you. The Learn Engineering Team has confirmed that there is no way to recover a profile. We apologize for these insolvencies.

In case that we do not receive a response, it will be closed and blocked within one business day.

Best wishes always,

Isabel Lopez.

Hi, Scott

Hope this message finds you well.

As we previously mentioned, if you need to recover the account, click on Recover your account (live.com)

You can contact the Accounts and Billing Department by calling 1- 877-568-2495 in Canada, this team has trained professionals to help resolve your issue. You can also reach them by going to Account help

The profile management is now self-service on Microsoft Learn. As per the Microsoft Learn frequently asked questions (FAQs), you can access your Learn profile by following the steps below:

Manage your Microsoft Learn profile settings | Microsoft Learn

Bear in mind that if this is the case, you will not be able to recover your MS Learn profile neither from our side we will be able to recover.

Please keep in mind that as of today, all Certification profiles have been migrated to Learn and that the Certification Profile program is now retired and no longer exists. This also means that you will no longer receive an MCID (MCID was a unique ID for the Certification Profile). When Certification Profiles retired, MCIDs also retired. Your unique identifier for your Learn Profile is now your Learn Username.

Please refer to the following link with the details about the recent changes:

If you require assistance with your Learn profile, please let us know. If we do not receive a response, the case will be closed and locked after one business day.
