MCTs and Expired Certifications

Hi there,

as an MCP since 1996 and MCT since 2000, I currently have a "Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert" certification, earned on 30 Aug 2021 and ... just "

Expired on 31 Aug 2024".

This happened because as it often happens with expiration dates, I was "convinced" that the expiration time was on Aug 31 at 23:59:59 and not 00:00:00 (which is just 24 hours before) ... so yesterday evening I was just doing my assessment test with a "light" attitude, and I did not pass it, convinced I could retake it today, while I found a very nice red sign over the "retake" button that was still available yesterday night (way after midnight).

Now, I understand everything about the world of "Business" certification, owning one since 1996 and having passed 21 exams in 25 years, but I hope that for such a case there is some kind of "official" (or unofficial) procedure to ask for the possibility or just trying the assesment another time (or better, two): one thing is owning a "Beginner" single exam certification and letting it expire, one other is running a continuous "Expert"certification status since 25 years and risking it being interrupted for a matter of 00:00:00 -> 23:59:59 interpretation.

Yes, I had six months to pass the non-proctored online assessment, but we all know the dynamics of the IT world, and I hope that this post will find a "reasonable" form of "support", considering that not having a single phone number or email address for such an "important" question is a little bit frustrating per-se: loosing my certification, on which my MCT Status is based, would be a major problem for my work as next year in February I'm also graduating in IT Engineering in Italy (yes, at 54, but you know it's never too late) and I'd love to show my status and certifications as "current" without having to restart from scratch as a newbie.

Please let me know (possibly in private) what to do ... for all of the concepts expressed above I choose as a support forum not the "Microsoft Credentials" one but the MCT one, hoping that the only special treatments we have is not just courseware and exam discounts, but also a form of professional and reasonable one-to-one support.

Thank you all in advance for reading my issue ... i'm also hoping that other MCPs or MCTs that found themselves in such a situation can drop a line of comment, too, maybe to "improve" the Microsoft Credentials world a bit (After so many years, I'd love to be able to contribute to it).

Greetings from Italy :)

Best wishes,

Dearest Rendon,

First of all thank you for your reply and the link : I was already aware of the information contained in the link, but I was just too confident about my deadline, thinking it was not at 00:00:00 of my last day, but at 23:59:59 the same day ... and not only I'm requesting a "little" time extension because in this case this "incident" will severely impact my MCT career, I'm also suggesting that for "expert" certifications a "grace period" of 7 days could be a good thing for everyone ... as one thing is not passing an assessment for a "basic" one-exam certification, one different thing is interrupting a path began in 1996 something like 22 exams before with my MCSE 2000 certification that never got interrupted and "survived" with "upgraded paths" until this year!

As for the private Message, unfortunately I cannot find the private message you sent to me, as in the top right corner of my screen I cannot find anything like the image you sent me, as per the screen snapshot I provide after my signature. This issue may be caused by some problems with my MCT account and some "double" registration in the MCT Forums, so that when posting I was "prompted" with a MarcoPiagentini1 nickname (like if I was already registered) so I had to choose Marco Piagentini (DJGiap) to make it different.

While I will further try to get to my private messages, I can actually reach 4 old ones but not your "new" message about my issue ... so while I further try to get to your private message you mentioned, I thought to write this note and my MCP id which is 261715 since January 1996 ... this could help you to retrieve my data, as well as the consideration that my "ancient" Microsoft Email has always been *** Email address is removed for privacy *** and that, maybe for my mistake, I logged in to the forum with my business email address *** Email address is removed for privacy *** without being aware of it (this private + business email association is never so clear and immediate).

So please keep my issue open and, just in case, provide me a different way to reach my private message. I can also provide any screen snapshot of my view or, like I did years ago, even a PSR recording if needed.

Ciao from Italy!

DJGiap

I'm just sending another screen snapshot showing that I have no news in my "private messages" section, if not a case from 2021 ... do not worry: there is no private information below

Update on this topic : I found my private message under *** and not **** (alias ****) and just replied there.

So please be aware that using the url https://trainingsupport.microsoft.com/en-us/privatemessage/inbox brings to different places if one is logged with his personal account or business account (shouldn't them be linked?)

So Rendon, please have patience and "merge" these two threads somehow :)

Hello Marco.

We hope this message finds you well. Thank you for your response.

We have reviewed your case and see that you did not take the renewal assessment prior to Private Messages - Microsoft Community when your certification expired.

We apologize but we are unable to extend your certification based on the Certification expiration policy (link below).

For future, please allow yourself enough time in advance of expiration to take certification renewal assessments, including time to retake an assessment if you do not successfully pass initially.

After the certification expires, you will no longer be able to renew that certification and will need to re-earn the certification by passing all the required exam(s).

Please let us know if you have any other questions, or if we may proceed with the closure of this thread. In case we do not receive a response, it will be closed and locked in one business days.

Best wishes always,

Ciao Nicole,

thank you for your kind follow up ... not only I'm not in a hurry (nor I have the right to be having delayed my assessment till the very last), but I'm also just keeping studying the topics hoping to be able to re-try the assessment, while I'm also getting ready a more detailed "public" post about my case, since I feel that my issue is not an isolated case and deserves some "human" attention.

Back in 1996 when I started my certification path, we had humans everywhere and we knew all of the regional, European and USA contacts for the program ... now I do fully understand the "advantage" of having people go through a public forum for any support request, as an issue of one could transform into an opportunity for the community, still being aware of the structure of the "board" behind the MCP/MCT program looks like reasonable to me ... this is the very first time that I NEED to go through some kind of human support and I'm a little bit disoriented not to be able to find a single name and surname over the net about the program ...

Anyway, thank you for your patience, and please keep me posted!
