When a certification retires do you lose the right to use the designation letters after your name, for example MCSD?
Does your MCP also retire?

Hello Hodson.
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
We understand from your post that you have doubts about the retired Certifications status. We are happy to assist you.
In this case, you do not lose the right to use designation letters any earned retired Certificate, as this Certificate already belongs to you. However, what is not longer possible is taking Exams for retired Certificates.
Your MCP status is automatically granted once you complete your first Microsoft Certification Exam. This status is reflected through the "Microsoft Certified Professional" Certificate document, and cannot be revoked.
If this solves your problem, please indicate “Yes” to the question and the thread will automatically be closed and locked. In case we do not receive a response, it will be closed and locked after one business day.
Best wishes,

The MCSD was obtained in 2004 using VB6 and also .NET. Is it still valid?

At the same time, if you are interested in earning an upgraded version of your MCSD Certificate, we cordially invite you to check the information of the following Certificate. This Certificate is the recommended replacement mentioned on the article we previously reposted:
