Right certification path

Hi!

I have an MCSA on Windows 2003 Server, and some MCT certification. I am working with and have most experience in IT infrastructure but have done a fair bit of scripting and am intermittently developing.

If I want to pursue a Systems Developer career some day, a few years back one was expected to learn C# and .Net in-depth. However, now it is the cloud that is the way forward. Still some roles available for .Net developer though, when browsing the job ads?

Ticking "Developer" here you get 67 exams:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/certifications/browse/?roles=developer

Not sure where to start or what role to pursue to get maximal employable?

Should one take a cloud exam first?

Is this the best approach:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/certifications/azure-developer

Found this, I think I can pass it without too much studying first:

https://docs.microsoft.com/sv-se/learn/certifications/exams/az-900

Is it a prerequisite for subsequent certification paths?

NB. Teammates etc are telling me to skip out the .Net and C# stuff and go for the Azure developer paths you have instead? I want to make tactical moves here.

Thanks,

Hi tobbo166,

Thank you for reaching us about this matter.

I would agree with your colleagues to stick with our New Role-based certificationsas all Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certifications will be retiring on January 31, 2021. You can read though on our post about Retirement of MCSA, MCSD, MCSE certifications and related exams extended.

There are numbers of Role-Based Certifications that you can check for Windows Servers and for Developers.

You may check on the certifications (see image below) under MCSE: Core Infrastructure, MCSE: Productivity and MCSD: App Builder. These are paths that may be closed to your experiences to the current technology.

For more information with the certification path, you may also download our guide to all role-based certifications

You may also take the exam AZ-900 and check on the Skills measured that can be found on the page for more information of the exam. However, this certification do not count or not a prerequisite on other certification path.
